Ben Pius Mock Trial is Emory University’s undergraduate trial advocacy team. Each year we receive a case from the American Mock Trial Association and engage in trial simulations, filling both witness and attorney roles. We try the case against other schools, competing for trophies and glory.
Since it’s founding in 2007, Emory Mock Trial has consistently been one of the most competitive teams in the region and we strive to continue that legacy. In 2014, we represented Georgia at the highest level of competition – the National Championship Tournament. We placed 18th in our division at Nationals, placing just above Cornell, Stanford, and Brown. In the 2017 Season, we sent another team to the National competition in Los Angeles, where we achieved 8th Place in our division, our highest ranking yet. In the 2018 Season, we returned to the National competition, where we received an honorable mention for our performance. Finally, in the 2019 season, we fielded two teams to Nationals in Philadelphia and earned the 6th place spot in our division.
We are currently ranked in the top 10 teams in the entire country.
We are an entirely student-run program and we currently field three teams.
All members of the mock trial team learn invaluable skills and join a close network of individuals who share a passion for law, arguing, and each other. Tryouts for the team are held every year at the beginning of September. All Emory undergraduates are encouraged to try out and no prior experience is necessary.
